Mary King, MA, CCC, SLP

 I am a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 30 years of experience working with the adult neurogenic population.  I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota in Speech and Hearing Sciences, and my graduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder in Communication Disorders.  I began my profession career as a Speech-Language Pathologist in California where I was employed by Long Beach Memorial Medical Center working on the Brain Injury Team of their acute rehabilitation unit.  Approximately 4 years later I relocated to San Diego, CA where I became the Supervisor of Speech Pathology at Scripps Memorial Hospital.  I continued my career at Scripps for 27 years, returning to direct patient care over the years in day treatment, acute care, and outpatient.  I have been involved in program development throughout my career which has included development of a Traumatic Brain Injury Day Treatment Program, dysphagia management programs, community programs, trach and ventilator weaning programs, and outpatient formal assessment standards.  My passion lies in the areas of adult traumatic brain injury, post concussive syndrome, and CVA. I love the complexity of the brain and working to facilitate neuroplasticity to maximize one’s return to prior level of function. In addition to TBI and CVA, I specialize in dysphagia management, head and neck cancer, and degenerative neurologic disorders including but not limited to muscular sclerosis, ALS, Parkinson’s disease, primary progressive aphasia, and inclusion body myositis.  I am excited to now be in Colorado Springs and continuing my passion of helping others regain function.
